Campaigner ends Dáil protest

A 24-hour protest by a campaigner who is calling on the Government to introduce a national health test will come to an end this morning, writes Steven Carroll.

Dubliner David Murphy began circling the Dáil on a bicycle at noon yesterday and says he will continue to do so until noon today in an attempt to generate awareness of his proposal.

Coillte to build mountain bike trails

The first purpose-built mountain bike trails in Co Dublin are to be completed by the end of the year.

State forestry company Coillte will begin building some 8km of trails at Ticknock Forest in the Dublin Mountains in the next fortnight. The scheme will cost €100,000 and is funded by the Dublin Mountain Partnership.

Department helping families of two Irishmen who died abroad

The Department of Foreign Affairs was yesterday providing consular assistance to the families of two Irishmen who died in Greece and France.

Police in Paris have begun an investigation after the body of Paul Hogan (20), from Limerick, was recovered from a river 20 miles outside the city on Tuesday. Police are investigating how he died. A father of one, Mr Hogan had been working in Paris with Croom Tarmacadam and had been missing since the weekend.

On Monday, a 20-year-old man from Rathfarnham in Dublin, who has not been named, died in hospital in Greece as a result of head injuries received in an assault.
