New service for bereaved siblings
Anam Cara, which offers support to bereaved parents, is setting up a service for adults who have lost a brother or sister. Its chief executive, Sharon Vard, said there was no specific service for grieving adults who had lost siblings. Friends and family of those who have died can make a dedication at anamcara.ie
McAleese appeals on mental health
There needs to be more focus on promoting a positive mental health culture and a willingness to access help to address increasing rates of suicide and self-harm during the recession, President Mary McAleese told the conference of the Irish Association of Suicidology yesterday, which heard there were 12,000 cases of self-harm last year.
Five in court over incident at house in Moate
Five men charged in connection with an incident at the home of Joe Joyce in Moate, Co Westmeath, last Sunday were remanded in custody with consent to bail at Longford District Court.
Timmy Ward (22), Joseph Ward (29), Bernie Ward (28), Edward Ward (18) and Patrick Ward (33) were charged with causing damage on October 3rd last. The five will appear at Harristown District Court on Friday.
