Man held over murder released

A man being questioned over the murder of an 18-year-old Dundalk man last week was released by gardaí yesterday.

Niall Dorr died in hospital on Thursday night after suffering serious head injuries in a row involving several youths. Three men were arrested and held at Dundalk and Drogheda Garda stations. Two were freed without charge on Saturday. Files are to be prepared for the DPP.

Two questioned over pipe bomb

Gardaí are continuing to question two suspected dissident republicans who were arrested after the discovery of a pipe bomb.

The find was made on Friday night when the car the men were travelling in was searched on the N25 Dungarvan Road two miles outside Waterford city.

The two suspects, one from Dublin and one from Waterford, were arrested, and taken for questioning to Waterford city Garda station.

Bord Bia ensures full Irish presence at Paris food trade show

Contingency plans have been put in place by the Irish Food Board, An Bord Bia, to ensure a full Irish turn-out at the giant SIAL food trade show in Paris which has been disrupted by the strikes by workers over the raising of the pension age, writes Seán Mac Connell.

Most aircraft in Europe have sufficient fuel to allow return flights and this has ensured personnel from the 11 Irish meat companies and a dairy company made it to the Irish pavilion at the fair, the largest in Europe. Other Irish companies are exhibiting independently and the strong Irish presence at this fair will be led by Minister for Agriculture Brendan Smith. Recent months have seen a recovery in Irish food exports.
