Reception for International Rules players
The International Rules teams of Ireland and Australia met for the first time last night ahead of this weekend’s test in Limerick.
The teams were guests of honour at a special mayoral reception hosted by Limerick City Council.
In the first test, Ireland take on Australia at Limerick’s Gaelic Grounds on Saturday evening.
Mayor of Limerick Cllr Maria Byrne welcomed both teams and their delegations to City Hall last night, saying it would be the first time an International Rules match was played in the city.
Certification boost for fishermen
Mackerel-fishing skippers on the south coast have been awarded the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for sustainable catching practices.
The international sustainable catch certification was presented to Celtic Sea herring management advisory committee chairman Gavin Power yesterday by Sea Fisheries Protection Authority chairman Peter Whelan.
