Arrests follow heroin seizure
Gardaí have arrested two members of an organised crime gang and a 16-year-old boy they believe was being used to deliver heroin to other drug dealers, writes Conor Lally, Crime Correspondent.
The three suspects were arrested and heroin valued at €100,000 seized following a surveillance operation that was put in place after gardaí in Dublin’s south inner city seized a gun and cocaine at the weekend.
On Sunday, gardaí investigating an organised crime gang operating in the Dolphin House flats complex, Rialto, seized cocaine valued at approximately €50,000 and a handgun.
Ardee murder suspects released
Three men being questioned by gardaí about the murder of Dublin man Stephen Hanaphy (20) in Ardee, Co Louth, last Friday were released without charge yesterday afternoon.
Two men were arrested in Dundalk on Monday afternoon on suspicion of murder in which a firearm was used.
As part of the same investigation gardaí arrested a 30-year-old man at 2am yesterday in Ardee. He was detained at Drogheda Garda station but later released.
A file was being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Mr Hanaphy from Coolock in Dublin, died after being shot last Friday.
Businessman lost foot after attack
A Dublin man has been convicted of running over his ex-girlfriend’s employer causing him to lose a foot.
Joseph Cullen (42) beat Kevin Byrne and hit him with a car after chasing him from his ex-partner’s home. The victim, a managing director of the ex-girlfriend’s firm, later lost his foot as a result.
Cullen, Adare Avenue, Coolock, had pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm and causing serious harm to Kevin Byrne on March 8th, 2008 at St Helena’s Road, Finglas. He was found guilty by a jury on the serious harm charge and remanded in custody until sentencing later this month.
