Inquiry into arson attack on house
Gardaí have begun an investigation following a petrol-bomb attack on a house in Portarlington, Co Laois.
The occupants, a man and a woman, were unharmed in the incident which occurred shortly after 10.30pm on Saturday. A Garda spokesman said damage had been caused to the front door.
“We are investigating an arson at a house. There was a fire at St Joseph’s Terrace in Portarlington shortly after 10.30pm last night.”
The house is thought to have been targeted as the result of a local dispute. Garda technical teams carried out an analysis of the scene yesterday.
Hillwalker airlifted off Lugnaquilla
A 40-year-old hillwalker from Northern Ireland was airlifted off Lugnaquilla mountain on Saturday after suffering leg injuries during a climb.
The man was one of a large party of hillwalkers who were staying in Glenmalure, Co Wicklow, for the weekend.
The group was on way up Lugnaquilla – Leinster's highest peak – when the man twisted his ankle and suffered lower leg injuries.
His colleagues called in the Glen of Imaal and Dublin- Wicklow mountain rescue teams and a helicopter was scrambled from Baldonnel.
The man was brought to Tallaght hospital.
