Man dies in fall through ice on lake as rescue boat capsizes
A 51-year-old man has died after falling through ice at the lake in Lurgan Park, Co Armagh, yesterday afternoon, reports

The PSNI, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and ambulance service were alerted about 2pm that the victim, whose name has not yet been released, had fallen through the ice. A police helicopter was used to help hoist the man from the water on to the ice and he was then brought ashore. He was treated by paramedics and an off-duty doctor who was at the scene. A coast guard helicopter took him to hospital where he later died.
A boat with two fire officers and a paramedic, assisting in the rescue, capsized. Two managed to swim ashore while a third person was rescued. They were treated in hospital.
PSNI Chief Supt Alastair Robinson said he had “nothing but praise and admiration” for the rescue team who risked their lives to take the man from the water.

Three arrested as €1m of drugs seized
Police arrested three men yesterday after seizing drugs worth more than €1 million.
The men – aged 51, 27 and 25 – were detained in Belfast when a lorry and two cars where stopped and searched.
Some 60kg of cannabis, 50,000 ecstasy tablets and cocaine and amphetamines were seized at the scene and during follow-up searches in Belfast, Co Antrim, and Co Armagh. A large amount of cash was seized.
Det Chief Supt Roy McComb, head of the Police Service of Northern Ireland organised crime branch, said the find had removed a large quantity of drugs at the height of the festive party season.
"I have no doubt that lives have been saved as a result of today's major successful seizure of suspected illegal drugs." –
