A round-up of other Treaty news in brief...
Farmer denied Lisbon court challenge
A farmer has been refused leave to bring a High Court challenge to the Government’s decision to hold a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.
John Burke had claimed the Government was not entitled under the Constitution to put an “identical” proposal before the people on October 2nd, when they had already rejected it last year.
Mr Justice Liam McKechnie ruled Mr Burke, who represented himself, failed to show he had an arguable case and awarded costs against him.
Booklet on Lisbon is 'misleading'
Former Danish MEP Jens Peter Bonde has claimed that the Referendum Commission’s booklet on the Lisbon Treaty is “misleading”.
Mr Bonde, who advised Libertas last year, was speaking at the launch of the National Platform’s campaign calling for a No vote.
“This is the most misleading document I have seen in my 30 years dealing with more than 20 referendums in my life,” he said.
The claims were rejected by a spokesman for the Referendum Commission.
Lisbon will benefit women - Burton
The lives of Irish women have been transformed by EU membership and women will benefit even more if the Lisbon Treaty is ratified, Labour Party deputy leader Joan Burton said last night.
She was speaking at a public debate on the topic "Is the Lisbon Treaty Good for Women?", organised by the group Feminist Open Forum.
Speakers against the treaty included Patricia McKenna and Mary Lou McDonald of Sinn Féin.
