Witnesses sought over Omagh killing
Detectives investigating the murder of a pensioner are still looking to speak to 10 potential witnesses, a court heard yesterday.
A 16-year-old boy appeared at Omagh Youth Court charged with killing Francis O’Neill (79), who was found dead on Saturday morning at his home in Brook Valley in the town.
The defendant spoke only to confirm his name, which cannot be reported for legal reasons. He nodded when asked if he understood the charge.
A 15-year-old boy remains in police custody after being arrested in connection with Mr O’Neill’s death. A 20-year-old man, who had been quizzed by detectives, was released without charge overnight.
Magistrate Greg McCourt remanded the teenager in custody to appear before the court next Tuesday. – (PA)

Road deaths for year reach 64
The death of two people in road crashes yesterday brings to 64 the number of road fatalities this year.
A woman in her 30s was fatally injured in Co Kildare after the car she was driving was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry.
The driver of the lorry was uninjured in the collision which occurred near Kilcock shortly before 2pm.
Separately, a man was killed when the car he was driving left the road at The Heath on the M7 motorway. A female passenger in the car was seriously injured in the crash, which occurred at about 2.30pm.
Meanwhile, an 11-year old girl has died in hospital following a road collision in Northern Ireland. Rachel McConville, from the Rathfriland area, sustained fatal injuries when she was struck by a Volkswagen people carrier on the town’s Castlewellan Road yesterday afternoon.
Child (8) is attacked by dog
An eight-year-old Polish boy was being treated in hospital last night after being attacked by a dog in Coleraine, Co Derry, on Tuesday. The boy suffered a broken arm and cuts to his legs after he was attacked by the animal at Somerset Drive in the city.
Further remand on assault charge
A man has been remanded in continuing custody charged in connection with an attack on a young woman on her way to work at Ceannt Station in Galway last Wednesday morning.
Russell Murray (31), Burke’s House, Clydagh, Moycullen, appeared before Galway District Court yesterday, charged with falsely imprisoning the woman at Forster Court, Galway, on April 8th.
Nurses vote for action on cuts
Nurses at Bantry General Hospital have voted in favour of industrial action over plans by the HSE to introduce cost- cutting measures. The nurses, who are members of the Irish Nurses Organisation, will hold a one-hour work stoppage and lunchtime protest next Tuesday. Emergency cover will be provided during the stoppage.
