Order against accused in murder case
A man accused of murdering his wife in Howth last year has been ordered by Mr Justice Paul Carney to have no contact with a witness on the book of evidence.
Eamonn Lillis (51) will be tried at the Central Criminal Court in January next for the alleged murder of Celine Cawley (46) at their home at Windgate Road, Howth on December 15th, 2008.
Paul Greene, prosecuting, asked that the court vary bail conditions to prohibit Mr Lillis from having any contact with Jean Tracey.
Roisin Lacey, defending, told the court that the defence consented to the variation, and the accused was prepared to give an undertaking not to contact the witness. Mr Justice Carney granted the order.
Trial for alleged rape of girls
A Kildare man has gone on trial for allegedly raping two 15-year-old girls within eight days of each other after driving them to a secluded location.
The 19-year-old man has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to the rape of the girls on January 10th and 18th, 2007 in an isolated part of the Curragh in Kildare. He also denies having sex with the girls while they were minors.
Poll candidate appears in court
A candidate who polled over 700 first preference votes in the local elections in Co Meath was yesterday served with a book of evidence relating to criminal charges dating from 2001.
James Carey (26), of Preston Hill, Stamullen, Co Meath was arrested at Stamullen polling station last Friday after failing to appear in Drogheda District Court that morning.
Mr Carey stood as an Independent candidate in the Slane electoral area for Meath County Council.
He is accused of assaulting two people causing them harm, dangerous driving, unauthorised possession of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm in Gormanston or Stamullen,
Co Meath, on dates in February 2001, when he was 17 years old.
Judge Flann Brennan adjourned the case until July 9th.
Bail for man on IRA, gun charges
A Dublin man charged with possession of firearms and ammunition has been released on bail at the Special Criminal Court. Darren Mooney (25), Landen Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin, is charged with possession of firearms, including one Smith and Wesson revolver, one Ivor Johnston revolver and one Muscleman electronic shotgun, and possession of ammunition, at Landen Road on Saturday.
He is also charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army. Mr Mooney was released on independent surety of €20,000.
Remand for teen on drugs charges
A DUBLIN teenager arrested last month over an alleged €200,000 heroin seizure at his home was remanded on bail at the Children’s Court in his absence yesterday.
The 17-year-old is charged with possessing heroin for sale or supply at his west Dublin home on May 27th last. Defence solicitor Daniel Hanahoe told Judge Clare Leonard that his client was not present due to a family bereavement.
The judge remanded the boy in his absence to appear in four weeks.
