Six years in jail over €24,000 of cocaine
A construction worker who told gardaí he found cocaine worth €24,000 "while out walking" has been given a six-year sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Martin Flynn (24), Whitestown Avenue, Blanchardstown, pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs on January 13th, 2006.
Judge Katherine Delahunt said she was satisfied that due to drugs paraphernalia found in Flynn's home, he was "not storing drugs under threat but actively engaged in the drugs trade" and had told gardaí "a fairy story".
She imposed a sentence of six years in prison with the final two years suspended, taking into account the "exceptional and specific circumstances" in the case.

Man pulled heads off exotic birds
A Dublin man who broke into an aviary and killed 12 "unusual and exotic display birds" by pulling their heads off will be sentenced later at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Judge Patricia Ryan ordered a probation report and adjourned sentence until December.
Uncle 'forced himself' on girl
A Donegal woman has told a Central Criminal Court jury that her uncle-in-law regularly "forced himself on me" when she was staying in his home for the weekend.
The 27-year-old woman said she would kick him and shout at him to stop, without success. "I would curse at him, every possible one I could think of."
Asked by Richard Lyons SC, prosecuting, how the accused would react, she replied: "It didn't matter what I did, he was going to do what he wanted to anyway."
The 50-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to 11 charges of rape and 22 charges of sexual assault between April 1st, 1993, and June 15th, 1996, when she was aged from 11 to 15 years old. The trial continues before Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne and a jury of seven women and five men.
