Sentence for failing to assist gardaí awaited
Gareth Buckingham (37), John Kearns (24) and Clare Freeman (45) all pleaded guilty to failing to disclose information which would have helped in securing conviction of other persons for the unlawful killing of Garry Bull.
The body of Mr Bull (37), who was from Hertfordshire in England and was living in a mobile home at Kilmichael, west Cork, was found in a slurry tank at a farm at Shanlaragh, Dunmanway, on October 11th, 2007, after a tip-off to gardaí.
A postmortem revealed that Mr Bull died from severe head injuries. Gardaí are understood to be satisfied Mr Bull was dead when his body was dumped in the tank.
The three accused pleaded guilty to the offence when arraigned at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. All three were remanded on continuing bail to Cork Circuit Criminal Court next February for sentence.
Three years in jail for sex abuse
A Tralee man who earlier this month pleaded guilty to four charges of indecently assaulting two young girls in the mid-1980s has received a three-year jail term at the Circuit Criminal Court.
The abuse, which occurred when the girls were nine to 12 years old, profoundly affected them, the court heard.
At the earlier hearing this month, William Hobbert (69), Baloonagh Estate, Tralee, Co Kerry, had asked to go to prison pending sentencing. Defence barrister Brian McInerney said Hobbert was deeply apologetic for his actions.
Man gets 12 years for having drugs
A man has been jailed for 12 years for possession of drugs worth almost €140,000. Raymond Gartland (50), Ashgrove Lawn, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, was sentenced at Clonmel Circuit Court yesterday.
He was found with 19.5kg of cannabis and eight coin-bags of amphetamine at his father's home in Clonmel on October 12th, 2006.
Gartland pleaded not guilty to two charges of possession of drugs for sale or supply and was convicted by a jury at Clonmel Circuit Court earlier this month.
Judge Donagh McDonagh refused leave to appeal.
Dangerous driving trial adjourned
The trial of a man charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of two men has been adjourned at Tullamore Circuit Court.
Andrew Palmisano, Kilnacourt Wood, Portarlington, Co Laois, is charged with driving offences relating to the incident on May 11th last, in which a taxi driver and his back-seat passenger lost their lives.
Jim le Blanc (53), Emmett Street, Mountmellick, Co Laois, and Adam Zygadlo (21), a Polish man, also Mountmellick, were killed when Mr le Blanc's car was involved in a collision with Mr Palmisano's vehicle at Annamoe, Garryhinch, Portarlington. Mr Palmisano faces further charges of driving under the influence of an intoxicant and of having no insurance or driver's licence.
Man to be tried on incest charges
A man aged 42 charged with incest, involving two of his sisters and a cousin, has been sent forward for trial to Galway Circuit Criminal Court after appearing at Galway District Court yesterday.
The man, who may not be named, faces 39 sample charges involving indecent and sexual assault of three girls aged nine to 12 years between 1987 and 1992 in Co Galway.
