Rumsfeld 'shares blame' for abuse

WASHINGTON - Former US defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other senior US officials share much of the blame for detainee abuse at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and Guantánamo Bay in Cuba, according to parts of a report released on Thursday by the US Senate armed services committee. It said he contributed to the abuse by authorising aggressive interrogation techniques at Guantánamo Bay. - (Reuters)

Further clashes in Athens

ATHENS - Students pelted police with firebombs and stones in Athens yesterday in further clashes that first broke out over the police killing of a teenager.

Bono receives peace award

PARIS - Bono was awarded the Peace Summit Award at the Ninth Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates yesterday in Paris for his crusade to tackle African debt and poverty.

"This is a very big award for me, because, let's be honest, this is as close as I am going to get - as close as a rock star is ever going to get - to the Nobel Peace Prize," he said.
