Englishman consents to extradition
An Englishman arrested in Dublin last month has consented to his extradition to the UK where he is wanted on charges connected with the rape of a teenage girl, writes Mary Carolan.
At the High Court yesterday, Mr Justice Michael Peart was told John Renner Dillon (41), a native of Newcastle in England, wished to return to the UK to face trial as soon as possible.
Mr Dillon is wanted in the UK where he is facing charges for the alleged rape of a then 16-year-old girl in Tyne and Wear in the northeast of England in October 2002.
It is claimed that, while on bail, he failed to appear before a court in England in October 2002.
Guilty plea in drugs case
A man faces sentence by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for drug dealing.
Kazakhstani national Arken Husainov (36), Hollypark, Shankill, Co Dublin, pleaded guilty to having cocaine and ecstasy for sale or supply on May 24th, 2006, at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Clondalkin.
Trial of five for €2.28m robbery
Five men charged in relation to a €2.28 million robbery and kidnapping three years ago are to stand trial next January at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
They are charged with holding a Securicor staff member and his family hostage and with robbing €2.28 million from a Securicor van at the Lower Road, Strawberry Beds in March 2005.
Christopher Corcoran (61), Bayside Boulevard North, Sutton; Mark Farrelly (37), Moatview Court, Priorswood; David Byrne (36) Old Brazeel Way, Knocksedan, Swords; Niall Byrne (27), Aughavanagh Road, Crumlin; and Jason Kavanagh (34), Parlickstown Court, Ladyswell have all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Judge Katherine Delahunt remanded them on continuing bail.
Facing sentence on shotgun charge
A Dublin man faces consecutive sentences at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for having control of a gun a year after he was found in possession of cocaine and cannabis.
Joseph Duff (21), New Street Gardens, Dublin, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a double- barrelled shotgun and ammunition at Iveagh Flats on May 6th, 2006.
