Discovery of man's body in Palmerstown
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body of a man in his 40s in Palmerstown, Dublin.
The body was found at 5.15pm in grounds off Mill Lane and the man appeared to have sustained injuries.
Gardaí at Ballyfermot Garda station said early indications had suggested that the death was not suspicious.
Man stole diesel from filling station
A man cut a hole in the bottom of his van and installed a tank and electric pump to steal diesel from a filling station, Drogheda District Court heard yesterday.
Lithuanian Nerijus Kikas (31), Westfield View, Ashbourne, Co Meath, stole 355 gallons of diesel fuel from the Esso filling station at Carronstown, Duleek, Co Meath.
Garda Pat Muldowney said Kikas had a large container in the rear of the van and had cut a piece out of the bottom of the vehicle, feeding a tube through a football into the service station's tank.
The football concealed the tube so it appeared as if there was a ball stuck under the van, Garda Muldowney said.
Judge Flann Brennan imposed a €1,000 fine on Kikas and gave him three months to pay.
Motorist killed in Clare collision
A 70-year-old motorist died yesterday following a collision in Co Clare. The crash occurred at about 11.30am on the main Ennis to Scarriff road close to the village of Tulla.
In Co Donegal, an elderly priest was seriously injured when his car collided with a bus yesterday. The priest was in a head-on collision with a private coach at 3.45pm on the N56, about 2km outside Creeslough town.
Man shot in Donegal
A 26-year-old man was injured when he was shot in Co Donegal on Thursday night. The shooting happened at about 9.20pm in Transalla near the Co Donegal village of St Johnston.
The man was in a car, accompanied by a female, when masked men approached. He was hit in the neck but managed to drive away. His injuries are not serious.
Second robbery in three weeks
The AIB bank in Edenderry, Co Offaly, has been robbed for the second time in under three weeks.
Yesterday's raid happened at 4.50pm and involved two men armed with what appeared to be handguns.
It was unclear how much money was taken, but no shots were discharged during the raid, gardaí said. On September 8th, two people robbed the same branch.
Senator named for social forum
The Taoiseach has nominated Senator Maria Corrigan (FF) to the National Economic and Social Forum (NESF), writes Deaglán de Bréadún.
The NESF, which is chaired by Dr Maureen Gaffney, advises the Government on achieving greater equality and inclusion in the context of social partnership.
