Two killed in RAF helicopter crash in UK
LONDON - Two people have been killed and 10 injured, some seriously, after a military helicopter crashed in northern England, police said yesterday.
The Royal Air Force Puma helicopter was carrying three RAF crew and nine army personnel as passengers when it crashed in a wooded area west of the Catterick Garrison military base in North Yorkshire late on Wednesday.
"Two fatalities have been confirmed at the scene," a North Yorkshire police spokesman said. - (Reuters)
Volcano erupts in Guatemala
GUATEMALA CITY - Guatemala's Fire volcano erupted yesterday, spewing lava, rock and ash near the colonial city of Antigua and some of the Central American country's most famous coffee farms.
Guatemala's volcanology service said seven families were evacuated from their homes near the volcano, about 50km (27 miles) southwest of Guatemala City. - (Reuters)
Intruder who fell from house dies
LONDON - An intruder who fell about nine metres (30ft) from the top floor of a house after a row with the homeowner has died, police said yesterday.
Patrick Walsh (56) woke to find the suspected burglar in his flat in Chorlton-cum- Hardy in Manchester in the early hours of Monday.
The pair argued and the intruder was later found unconscious outside the flat, Greater Manchester police said.
Mr Walsh, who was arrested on suspicion of assault, was released on police bail. - (Reuters)
Refugees key in Israel-Abbas talks
JERUSALEM - Israel wants the divisive question of Palestinian refugees addressed early in talks with President Mahmoud Abbas and suggested movement on the issue could lead to a pledge to hand over more Israeli-held land.
In meetings over the last week with visiting US and European officials, foreign minister Tzipi Livni and other Israeli leaders stressed the importance of addressing the refugee issue up front, participants said yesterday. - ( Reuters)
