New case in Scottish E.coli outbreak
PAISLEY -Health officials have confirmed a new case of E.coli O157 in an outbreak that has already claimed the life of one woman and left her husband seriously ill.
A woman fell ill after eating cooked meat she bought from one of two supermarkets in Paisley that have been linked to the other cases. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde yesterday said the woman, from Paisley, needed hospital treatment after falling ill while on holiday in Ireland. - (PA)
Belgian couple freed in Iran
BRUSSELS -A Belgian man and woman kidnapped in southeastern Iran at the weekend have been released, according to the Belgian foreign ministry.
An Iranian official said they had been abducted by a bandit group led by a man named Ismael Shahbakhsh, who demanded that his jailed brother be freed. - (Reuters)

Arrest warrant issued for Thaksin
BANGKOK -Thailand's supreme court has issued arrest warrants for exiled prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife on corruption charges.
The nine-judge panel ordered him to be produced in court by September 25th, the starting date of the trial of Mr Thaksin and his wife, following his failure to meet yesterday's deadline for a voluntary appearance. - (Reuters)
North Sea oil rig evacuated
LONDON -A fire at a North Sea offshore drilling rig prompted the evacuation of non-essential personnel yesterday, but there were no reports of injuries.
"We believe the fire is extinguished and under control . . . All personnel are accounted for," said Gary Krenek, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Diamond Offshore Drilling. - (Reuters)
