Sex charges too serious for court
A judge yesterday refused to deal with charges against a teenage youth that involved an alleged sex assault on an eight-year-old boy and imprisoning of his parents.
Judge Desmond A Zaidan was told the 17-year-old youth entered a holiday home through a window near Bunbeg, Co. Donegal, while the family of six slept.
The judge said that because of the serious nature of the case, he was adjourning it so the defendant be returned for trial at the Circuit Court.
Judge Zaidan said: "On the alleged facts the District Court penalties would not be enough. It could impose a maximum of only 12 months. Some of the charges could carry life." He remanded the 17-year-old on bail.
