Remand for man who raped girl

A Carlow man who raped a young girl has been remanded in custody for sentence later by Mr Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court.

The 34-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to eight sample charges of rape and anal rape of the victim on dates from 2002 to 2006. There were 53 counts on the indictment.

Mr Justice Carney directed that the man be registered as a sex offender and that probation and victim impact reports be prepared for the sentence hearing at which evidence of the crimes will be given by Det Garda Maria McWey.

Rapist given bail to attend centre

A Dublin man has been remanded on bail to attend a treatment centre for sexual offenders after pleading guilty at the Central Criminal Court to raping a now 18-year-old girl.

The 43-year-old man pleaded guilty to two charges of rape and five of sexual assault of the victim on dates from October 2003 to March 2004.

His guilty plea came after a jury had been sworn in for his trial. He cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Mr Justice Paul Carney agreed to him being remanded on bail on the application of defence counsel Mary Ellen Ring SC, so that he could continue receiving treatment at the Granada centre for sexual offenders.

Mr Justice Carney directed the preparation of a victim impact report on the application of prosecuting counsel Niall Durnin SC and also directed that the man be registered as a sex offender.

Evidence of his offences will be given at the sentence hearing later.

Man assaulted woman in city

A Mongolian man has pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to a serious assault on a woman in the city centre two years ago. Orgilsaikhan Bayersaikha (24), of Custom Hall apartments, Dublin, pleaded guilty to assault causing serious harm to Ms Erdenne Bolormaa on April 3rd, 2005 at Gardiner Place.

Judge Patricia Ryan remanded him on continuing bail until his sentence date next February when facts will be heard in the case.

Pair guilty of cocaine charge

Two men have pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of about €100,000 of cocaine in the city centre two years ago.

Louis Feeney (57), of Demarer Drive, Coleraine, Derry and Gregory Ashe (33), of Derry Drive, Crumlin pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs for sale or supply on September 7th, 2005 at Amiens Street.

Judge Patricia Ryan remanded them on continuing bail until their sentence date in December when facts will be heard in the case.
