2004 Limerick murder appeal renewed

Gardaí in Limerick have renewed their appeal for information about a murder two years ago.

David Nunan (25), O'Malley Park, Southill, Limerick, was found in a laneway in Parteen village on the outskirts of Limerick city on October 28th, 2005.

Gardaí believed Mr Nunan, who was only released from prison days beforehand, was lured into a trap by his killer. The postmortem found he had been shot twice.

Nobody has been charged in relation to the murder. Anyone with information is asked to contact Mayorstone Garda station on (061) 456980 or the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.

Fire at feed plant in Goresbridge

Nine units of the fire brigade were called to tackle a blaze at an animal feed store in Co Kilkenny early yesterday. The fire broke out in a shed close to Connolly's Red Mills animal foods plant in Goresbridge, shortly before 2am.

The company, in Goresbridge since 1908, says supply of feed will not be significantly affected as its main pet food facility and store is based in Gowran, six kilometres away.

Legal argument in Clare death trial

The trial of three men charged with manslaughter outside a Co Clare village pub last year continued yesterday in legal argument in the absence of the jury.

On Tuesday at Ennis Circuit Court, Mark O'Connor (19), Rosscliffe, Ballynacally; Michael Finn (34), Ennis Road, Kildysart; and Noel Murphy (24), Crovraghan, Kildysart, denied the manslaughter of Vincent Hehir (32) at Kildysart on September 3rd, 2006.

Date for murder trial of husband set

The husband of a woman whose body was found floating in the Suir river two weeks after she went missing is to go on trial charged with her murder at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin next April.

The body of Margaret Walsh (35), a mother of one, was found at Meagher's Quay in Waterford by passersby on October 15th last year.

The trial of her husband, John O'Brien (40), had been set for January 28th at the Central Criminal Court but, following an application on behalf of Mr O'Brien, it is now to go ahead in April.

Four in court on cocaine charges

Four men charged in connection with the largest seizure of cocaine in the history of the State appeared before Cork Circuit Criminal Court yesterday.

The trial of Perry Wharrie (47), Pryles Lane, Essex; Gerard Hagan (23), Hollowcroft, Liverpool; Joe Daly, Bexley, Kent, and Martin Wanden, no fixed abode, all from England, could involve 150 witnesses.

They are charged with possession of more than €13,000 worth of cocaine for sale or supply at Dunlough Bay, Mizen Head, Goleen, last July 2nd.

Judge Patrick Moran remanded each of the four men in custody to appear before the Circuit Criminal Court again on November 15th to set a trial date.
