Iraq asks US to hand over 'Chemical Ali'
BAGHDAD - The Iraqi government has asked the US president George
Bush to order the handover of Saddam Hussein's cousin, Ali Hassan al-Majeed, known as "Chemical Ali", and two other former officials convicted of genocide, so they can be executed.
Al-Majeed, the former defence minister Sultan Hashem and former army commander Hussein Rashid Muhammad are being held in US military custody. - (Reuters)
Iran group's terror listing removed
LONDON - A British tribunal yesterday ruled to remove Iran's main opposition movement from a government list of proscribed terrorist organisations.
The People's Mujahideen Organisation of Iran, a resistance group, said it was a "magnificent victory for justice", after a six-year battle to have the listing annulled. The British government said it intended to appeal. - (Reuters)
3 fined after row over female clergy
HELSINKI - A Finnish court fined two male ministers and a woman volunteer yesterday for violating equality laws after they refused to work with female clergy at a church service. The court said it fined the three for discriminating against a colleague because they disagreed about a woman's right to conduct church services. - (Reuters)
Junta closes monks' hospice
RANGOON - The Burmese junta has shut down a Rangoon monastery which served as a hospice for HIV/ Aids patients and has expelled its monks, according to an opposition lawyer said. - (Reuters)
