There were 17,060 new private cars licensed in January, 2003, an increase of 15.9 per cent on the same month last year, according to statistics released today.

The highest number of new private cars licensed in January, classified by make are Ford (2,381) followed by Toyota (1,782), Nissan (1,728), Volkswagen (1,655), Renault (1,156) and Opel (1,083).

The vehicle-licensing figures are compiled from data supplied by the Department of the Environment and Local Government and the Vehicle Registration Unit.
