YELLOWSTONE - A group of American Indians gathered in Yellowstone National Park on Thursday to pray for an end to the killing of bison by officials trying to prevent the spread of disease.
More than 1,000 Yellowstone bison have been shot or sent to slaughterhouses this winter as they moved toward Montana grazing areas north of the huge park in search of food. That is nearly one-third of the Yellowstone bison herd, which numbered some 3,400 animals before the winter began.
