Suva - The leader of the Indian-dominated Fiji Labour Party, Mr Mahendra Chaudhry, claiming victory yesterday in a historic multi-race election yesterday, said he would be Fiji's first Indian prime minister.
Mr Chaudhry said his Labour-led coalition, which includes two Fijian parties, would hold a massive 52 seats in Fiji's new 71-seat parliament.
Mr Chaudhry's coalition ousted the rainbow coalition of Mr Sitiveni Rabuka, with Indian voters taking revenge for his 1987 coup which toppled Fiji's first Indian-dominated government and racially divided this nation.
