A two-year-old girl from Connemara has been admitted to University College Galway hospital with a case of suspected meningitis.
The girl, from Inverin, is said to be in a stable condition.
A Western Health Board spokesperson said its community care team had contacted all in close contact with the child including her family and friends and that preventative antibiotics had been given. She said the community care team would continue to monitor and manage the situation.
The Health Board said this was only a suspect case but urged parents to be vigilant for signs of the disease such as a rash, high fever, sensitivity to bright light and vomiting.
