Injured England hooker Phil Greening will leave the British and Irish Lions squad, team officials announced today.
Greening injured his knee last week in training and did not play a game on tour.
Scotland's Gordon Bulloch was called into the squad as cover while Greening was given a week to get better but a re-examination of the injury today showed it had not improved enough and he was officially ruled out of the rest of the tour.
"He has made significant progress but the earliest he would have been able to play was two weeks so he will officially leave the tour when we get to Sydney [on Sunday]," Lions manager Donal Lenihan said.
"He is planning to stay on in Australia for some rehabilitation and if someone else gets injured later on he may be available but at this stage he'll be leaving the tour party."
Greeningis the second injured player to leave the tour. Scottish flanker Simon Taylor was sent home after damaging his knee in the opening game against Western Australia and was replaced by England's Martin Corry.
More injury news came in the form of Welsh number eight Scott Quinnell, who was today ruled out of the British and Irish Lions team to play Queensland in Brisbane on Saturday because of a knee injury.
Lenihan said Quinnell had been withdrawn from the match as a precaution because he had fluid on the knee but was expected to be fit to play in the next match against Australia A.
