Clare’s assault on the National Hurling League and this summer’s All-Ireland championship has been dealt a blow with the retirement of influential defender Anthony Daly.

Daly has been troubled by a long-term back injury and the two time All-Ireland winner has been forced to retire from the inter-county scene.

But the 32-year-old hopes to continue playing for his club Clarecastle.

Daly captained the "Banner County" to win the Liam McCarthy Cup in 1995 and 1997. He was an All-Star in 1994, 1995 and 1998.
