An inquest into the death of nurse Sarah Neligan, who was found dead in her home in Dublin last June, has been adjourned pending the conclusion of criminal proceedings.

A brief hearing at Dublin City Coroner's Court heard that a preliminary autopsy carried out on the deceased had established that the cause of death was a stab wound to the neck.

Ms Neligan (33), Wintergarden Apartments, Pearse Street, Dublin had also received a number of stab wounds to the chest.

She was the daughter of the retired cardiac surgeon Maurice Neligan and had most recently worked in Dublin's Mater hospital. Her body was discovered at the Wintergarden apartment complex on June 14th after friends alerted the Garda when they had not seen her for a number of days.

The brother of the deceased, Dr Maurice Neligan, who attended yesterday's proceedings, said he had formally identified his sister's body at the city morgue on June 14th.

Speaking on behalf of his family, Dr Neligan said he appreciated the help of Dr Farrell and everybody else in relation to the matter.

Dr Farrell adjourned the case sine diepending the completion of criminal proceedings.

A 25-year-old man, Brian MacBarron, also with an address at the Wintergarden apartment complex, was charged last June with Ms Neligan's murder.
