The inquest into the death of a man who was stabbed in Blanchardstown last November was adjourned indefinitely yesterday at Dublin County Coroners Court.
Michael Murphy (31), with an address at Fortlawn Avenue, Blanchardstown, died on November 1st, 2004, after he was stabbed 12 times, first outside the Budabar at the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre and again at the nearby McDonald's restaurant.
Yesterday Insp Peter Hughes, from Blanchardstown Garda station, asked the coroner, Dr Kieran Geraghty, for an adjournment under Section 25(2) of the Coroners Act.
He said criminal proceedings had started in the case.
Dr Geraghty asked Insp Hughes: "Has somebody been charged?"
The inspector replied: "Yes."
Garda John Small then read a statement by the deceased's brother, Patrick Murphy.
The inquest heard that Mr Murphy identified his dead brother's body in Blanchardstown hospital between 10am and 11am on November 1st, 2004. Summarising Dr Declan Gilsenan's postmortem, Dr Geraghty gave the cause of death as shock due to blood loss caused by a stab wound to the left side of chest and abdomen.
Expressing his sympathy to the Murphy family, Dr Geraghty adjourned the inquest indefinitely.
