The inquest into the death of a Drogheda man, Mr Edward Raey, has been told he died in an ambulance after being involved in a serious assault in the Moneymore area.

Gardai launched a murder inquiry after Mr Raey (45) died on January 23rd last.

The Louth County Coroner, Mr Ronan Maguire, adjourned the inquest yesterday at the request of the gardai, who said criminal proceedings were being considered.

In his report, the State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison, concluded that Mr Raey, Moneymore, Drogheda, died from haemorrhage and contusion of the brain due to fractures of the skull.
