Gardaí are still investigating the apparent "hit-and-run" death of a British student in Dublin.

The inquest into the death of Lily Hastings-Bass (20), from Berkshire, England, heard she was in her first term at Trinity College Dublin when she was hit by a car.

The student going home with five friends on November 26th when she was knocked down as she crossed Rathgar Road near the Grosvenor Road service station.

The car, described as a blue or navy hatchback, struck Ms Hastings-Bass before speeding off.

At the time, gardaí reported the driver drove through the service station to avoid stopping at traffic lights at a junction which were red.

The car was reported to have travelled towards the Harold's Cross area.

The woman's life-support machine was switched off at St James's Hospital on December 7th last.

Dublin City Coroner Dr Brian Farrell adjourned the inquest until July 6th.
