An investigation was taking place today in Northern Ireland into how a Ryanair passenger jet landed in a military airfield near Derry.
The plane landed at Ballykelly army base. It is believed around six crew and 39 passengers were on board. Ground staff from City of Derry airport were dispatched to the army base to help the passengers disembark.
There were no indications that the plane had developed any faults. Sources said it was possible the plane may have landed at the base by accident.
City of Derry Airport is six miles away from Ballykelly Army base. The Ministry of Defence confirmed a civilian plane had landed at the base. Sources said the plane was carrying passengers from Liverpool.
