Gardaí in Cavan are investigating the death of a man who was found on the roadside near his home.

He was named locally as Patrick McCormack who had been a printer with the local newspaper, the Anglo-Celt, before his retirement.

Initial reports suggested a hit-and-run incident but later reports claim that the dead man may have suffered severe head injuries not consistent with a car crash.

His body was found by a passerby on a side road at Corratogher, 3km from Cavan town on the Cootehill road.
