A Garda investigation into FAS schemes operated by Co Laois GAA has begun after an audit by the training agency discovered that more than £45,000 was not used for the purpose intended. A spokesman for FAS said yesterday the inquiry would examine a series of Community Employment Schemes operated by Laois GAA over several years.
The spokesman added that FAS had about 3,000 such schemes in operation throughout the State. A routine audit discovered a discrepancy in the Laois scheme which then became the subject of a full audit. The matter has now been reported to the Garda by FAS and Laois GAA.
