Gardai investigating the murder of the Dublin schoolgirl Ms Raonaid Murray are still examining forensic evidence and assessing witness statements, but expect no imminent breakthrough, according to sources close to the investigation, writes Jim Cusack.
The murder investigation, now in its sixth week, has led to the accumulation of several hundred witness statements which are still being crosschecked, the sources said.
Forensic evidence was also being evaluated, but as yet there was no positive identification of a particular suspect.
The sources rejected a claim in a Sunday newspaper that a young local man suspected of another assault less than a mile from where Raonaid was killed was the leading suspect.
Raonaid was stabbed to death on the night of September 3rd as she made her way home to Silchester Park, Glenageary, from a pub in Dun Laoghaire. She was stabbed with a long knife with a wide blade. The weapon has not been found.
