The Marine Casualty Investigation Board is to initiate an inquiry into the loss of a father and son off the south Donegal coast earlier this week.
A board will appoint a marine surveyor to inquire into the circumstances which led to the deaths of Liam Kennedy and his son, Conor (19), from Port, Inver, when their 7m open boat got into difficulties off Doorin Head on Monday.
The two had gone to check shellfish pots and the alarm was raised by another fisherman who returned to shore ahead of them. The deaths came just days after a road crash in Inver which claimed the life of Barry Gallagher of the well-known fish industry family in Killybegs, and the deaths of two crewmen from Latvia and Lithuania in a car accident off the fishing vessel pier in Rossaveal, Co Galway.
