Santry gardaí appeal on missing man
Gardaí at Santry are appealing for the public's assistance in locating the whereabouts of Fred O'Shea.
Mr O'Shea (41) was last seen in the Shanliss area of Santry in north Dublin. When last seen, he was wearing a red T-shirt, beige chinos and brown boots.
He is described as being 1.77m (5ft 10ins) in height, of heavy build with red curly hair and beard and wears glasses. Any sightings or information should be reported to gardaí at Santry on 01-6664000 or any Garda Station.
Man charged after shots fired in Clare
A 39-year-old man will appear in court in Co Clare today charged in connection with an incident at a house in the early hours of yesterday morning during which two shots were discharged from a shotgun.
The man, who sustained seirous facial injuries during the incident for which he later received hospital treatment, was formally charged late last night with an offence under Section 27 (1) (a) of the Firearms Act 1964. The man is due to appear at Killaloe District Court this morning.
Lough Corrib to get car ferry
Water transport across Lough Corrib is due to start next year, following approval by Galway County Council.
Shannon Ferries Ltd hopes to have a €3 million car ferry service running from next May between Kilbeg, near Headford, and Knockferry, near Moycullen. The service could cut commuting times between Connemara and north Galway by over an hour, and allow cars to avoid Galway city.
Three separate assaults in Derry
Police are investigating three separate assaults at a housing estate in Derry.
In one of the assaults, a man was left with a suspected broken jaw and cuts and bruises after a gang of youths jumped on his head repeatedly.
The attack took place in the Galliagh Park area at about 4am.
The man, who is in his 30s, was walking home with his sister when a gang of youths in a red Peugeot 306 car pulled up alongside them.
His condition is not said to be life threatening. A male passer-by who went to the man's assistance was assaulted, and his wife was knocked to the ground.
Two juveniles were arrested at the scene. The PSNI said that shortly before the attacks another man and his sister were assaulted in the estate.
Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them. - (PA)
Irish missionaries remembered
Over 800 Irish missionaries who died abroad this past 100 years were remembered at a "Mission Alive" Mass broadcast on RTÉ yesterday. Of the 800, 49 died violently.
Special celebrations took place for 14 of these modern martyrs over the weekend in the dioceses of Down and Connor, Raphoe, Tuam, Waterford, Kerry, Killaloe, Meath, Dublin and Armagh.
