Twelve Irish universities and institutes have been shortlisted for research funding worth £260 million. The fund is organised by the Higher Education Authority, under the Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions (PRTLI).
The panel shortlisted 12 proposals, which cost £370 million, although only £260 million is available.
The 12 include two bodies that have never received PRTLI funding, the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies and the Waterford Institute of Technology. Others shortlisted include DCU, the Institute of Technology, Carlow, NUI Galway, NUI Maynooth, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, TCD, UCC, UCD, UL and the Institute of Technology, Sligo.
These will go forward to the second phase, with either the scope or the number of proposals being reduced.
