Intel Corporation, the world's largest producer of microchips, reported a sharp rise in quarterly revenue today due to strength in its processorbusiness, and higher profit despite a $611 million charge fora communications-related acquisition.
In the fourth quarter ended December 27th, Intel reported aprofit of $2.2 billion, or 33 cents a share, on revenue of$8.74 billion. In the prior-year period, the Santa Clara,California-based company reported earnings of 16 cents a shareon net revenue of $7.16 billion.
