The US has claimed a stray Iraqi missile or deliberate Iraqi sabotage may have caused blasts in a Baghdad street that killed as many as 15 civilians.
Brigadier-General Vincent Brooks said in Qatar that US forces had not aimed at targets in the area, and that the blasts could have been caused by Iraqi surface-to-air missiles falling back onto the city.
"We won't have a final answer until we're in Baghdad ourselves," he said. The blasts devastated a street in northern Baghdad yesterday.
