Ireland attracted more foreign direct investment (FDI) in life sciences than any other European country from July 2006 to June 2007, according to research published today.
The indicators, released by Belfast-based company OCO, show that the life sciences sector attracted 25 per cent of all FDI in the European Market - creating a total of 1,960 new jobs.
OCO chief executive Mark O'Connell said the indicators reflected a marked shift in inflows to Ireland towards high quality investments in the life science, business and financial services and the ICT sector.
"Globally Ireland remains an attractive investment destination and currently is amongst the world's largest recipients of investment," he said.
The research showed that 38 per cent of all FDI projects were in Dublin followed by counties Cork and Clare, which between them accounted for over 30 per cent of the total investment.
The FDI indicators also revealed that after London, Belfast is the top-ranking destination city in the United Kingdom for attracting foreign investment projects.
