Ireland's hopes of success in this year's Eurovision Song contest, with an entry written by former Westlife star Bryan McFadden, failed to make the grade in Turkey last night.
The song, sung by Waterford's Chris Doran, was given seven points by the United Kingdom, and finished second from bottom.
The winning entry from the Ukraine was a theatrical mix of energetic dancing, leather costumes and passionate vocals in a song called "Wild Dance".
Singer Ruslana, a cult figure in the former Soviet republic, was supported by a group of dancers in warrior costumes associated with the Carpathian mountains. With the victory comes the right to stage the 50th Eurovision Contest in 2005.
Ruslana's best-selling album, The Wild Dances, was the first ever to go platinum in the Ukraine.
This year's contest, held in Turkey's cultural capital Istanbul for the first time, was marked by tight security.
