Ireland overcame an embarrassing incident in the first half of a scrappy qualifier to pull off a 3-1 win over Andorra.

A goal halfway though the first period was just what was needed to spring the Irish team into life. They had been huffing and puffing for some thirty minutes or so when the Andorrans struck the first blow with a well-headed goal from a corner.

The Irish sprang into life, and although some chances went begging, goals from Kilbane and Kinsella in the few minutes after the Andorran goal sent them in 2-1 up at the break.

The second half didn't seem to be much better than the first, and the boys in green squandered many chances. It was not until the 77th minute that Coventry defender, and makeshift captain, Gary Breen sealed the win with an easy finish.
