A three-year-old boy was being transferred to hospital in Dublin by air ambulance tonight after he was seriously hurt when he was hit by a car in Co Cork.

The incident happened at Barryroe, about five miles from Clonakilty, on the Clonakilty to Timoleague road which at about 6.30pm.

A Garda spokesman said the child, a pedestrian, was seriously injured and was being transferred to Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin by air ambulance.

The road has been closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí at Bandon are seeking witnesses.

A three-year-old girl was injured in a hit-and-run in Cork city on Tuesday.

The girl was taken to Cork University Hospital with minor injuries and was later discharged.

Gardaí at Gurranabraher station are investigating that incident.
