A man has died following a collision between a motorbike and a van in Co Mayo on Sunday.

The 55-year-old man was killed when the motorbike he was riding collided with a van on the R331 between Claremorris and Hollymount.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Mayo General Hospital where a post-mortem examination was due to take place.

The driver of the van involved in the incident was also taken to Mayo General Hospital as a precaution.

The incident occurred at around 1:20pm on Sunday.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who was travelling on the R331 between Hollymount and Claremorris between 1pm and 1.30pm on Sunday to contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094-9372080, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
