The Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin was closed this morning during rush hour, causing major delays to morning commuters.
The bridge was closed between 9pm and 6am for overnight works, but failed to reopen on time. The bridge began opening at 8.45am to pedestrians followed by traffic.
According to a spokeswoman for Dublin City Council, the bridge was unable to reopen due to "technical issues". She confirmed that a technical engineer is examining the bridge this afternoon in the hopes of resolving the issue before the evening rush.
Dub: To be clear Sam Beck Bridge is closed to ALL. The bridge is partially lifted. Only Mary Poppins and her umberella would make it.

“If they’re not happy they can guarantee reopening tomorrow, they won’t close the bridge this evening,” she said.
Dublin City Council has been carrying out overnight works on the Samuel Beckett Bridge over the last week. Tonight is scheduled to be the final night of works.
