Irish animators won three awards at the prestigious British Academy Childrens Awards in London last night.
Boulder Media won children’s Baftas for best animation and best script for The Amazing World of Gumball, a co-produced series shown on the Cartoon Network. It is the second year in a row the series has won both awards.
Gumball is a 12-year-old trouble-making cat. His schoolfriends include a Tyrannosaurus rex, a cheerleading peanut and a banana.
Earlier this year Boulder Media announced it had been commissioned by Disney to make a new series, Randy Cunningham: Ninth Grade Ninja, about a schoolboy who saves the world from imminent destruction in every episode using an 800-year-old Ninja manual.
Dublin-based animation company Jam Media won best drama for Roy, set in Ballyfermot in Dublin, which is shown on CBBC and RTÉ.
The company announced last month that the BBC had commissioned a second series of Roy. The decision is worth €8.5 million to Jam Media and will lead to the creation of 60 new jobs.
