Overdraft rates in Ireland at 12.9 per cent continue to be substantially higher than the EU average of 9.7 per cent, new figures show.
Central Bank retail interest rate data show that overdraft rates to households increased from 12.81 per cent to 12.93 per cent in December after a fall of 0.1 per cent in November. The average EU rate rose from 9.64 to 9.7 per cent in the same month.
Overdraft rates to business also increased by around 0.1 per cent over the month.
The cost of loans to households for consumption purposes showed a mixed pattern in December with variable-rate loans falling, while fixed-rate loans increased sharply.
