Ireland's dank and dismal summer weather saw an additional 30,000 people travel abroad for their holidays during July, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office.
In July there were some 808,900 overseas trips by Irish residents in July 2007 compared with 778,100 in July 2006, an increase of 30,800.
In the same month, there were 909,600 visitors to Ireland, an increase of nearly 70,400 compared with July 2006.
Among those additional visitors were an extra 20,000 tourists from Britain and 45,700 visitors from other European countries.

The important North Atlantic tourist trade saw a rise in visitors from America and Canada of 5,900 compared with the same month in 2006.
