Irish photographer shot in Afghanistan

An Irish photographer embedded with US troops in Afghanistan has been shot and wounded.

An Irish photographer embedded with US troops in Afghanistan has been shot and wounded.

The man is understood to have been caught in crossfire in battles in Kunar province in the north east of the country. It is believed he was shot in the stomach and that his injuries are not life-threatening.

The US army is expected to have him airlifted to a military hospital in Germany.

A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said it had not been made aware of the incident but was "making inquiries in the area".
